Round Leicester Relay - Sunday, 26th September 2010, start 8.15am

THIS YEARS RELAY WILL BE ON
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 26th

The 2010 relay is on Sunday 26th September - note the start and restart times

Welcome to the website for this years Round Leicester Relay.

It is often said that triumph comes from adversity and last years event proved that this is true.  The changes that were enforced upon us in the Gaddesby area last year by the pylon upgrading scheme proved to be an improvement to the original so we have decided to keep that change for the foreseeable future.  The maps therefore are correct for this year and the route will remain the same as last.

Every year after the race someone always catches me at the presentation and tells me about a small deviation in the instructions or maps.  With the best will in the world it is not possible to make a note of these, so if you do know of anything that needs tweaking please let me know through the website email link.

Finally, may I offer my warmest thanks to all clubs and individuals who willingly give up their time to mark out the course, set up the changeover points and generally help, not forgetting of course the team managers who I know spend hours sorting out teams and managing changes and drop outs due to injury and hair washing duty.

On behalf of the RLR team can I wish you a successful but most importantly, an enjoyable, day of racing.

JOHN SKEVINGTON

Following the move to September in 2008, the event remains in September for 2010. The feedback received, especially from the paramedics, was that it was in the interests of all concerned to try and avoid the potentially hotter August weather.

The course as it stands at the moment will remain the same as in 2009 and there are no other rule changes to take place.

The race grows more and more popular year by year and this in turn brings its problems, with parking, vehicles on the road etc. Please on the day remember to park responsibly and avoid any visits by the police on the way. This is particularly important in the villages that we use, last year we had complaints from the residents of LODDINGTON. Please treat property with respect and be careful where you wee.

I always look forward to the relay and what I describe as "Leicestershire's celebration of running". Personally I think it is always wonderful to see clubs competing against each other and doing their competitive best to beat each other but at the same time encouraging and helping each other along the way.

Just to reiterate the changes that were initiated previously;

RUNNERS DROPPING OUT - A team may continue in the race having had a runner drop out due to injury etc, the runner on that leg will be given the slowest recorded time for the leg PLUS ONE SECOND. The runner on the following leg will start with the last runner except of course on a re-start leg.

TEAMS now must consist of 13 different runners, we will as usual, in the interests of inclusiveness allow runners to double up if it is an "odds and sods" team or if it is a "non competitive" B team. MIXED TEAMS can now consist of a minimum of 5 men or 5 women.

RESTART TIMES will be 10.30 - 1.15 - 3.30 and 4.45pm This should allow the race to catch up with itself a little easier- Note the earlier start time as well!

PARKING AT THE START/ FINISH - So as not to upset the residents of Bewcastle Grove. There will be NO PARKING on the street. The car park at the rear of the school will be opened.

SUBSTITUTE RUNNER We will allow one substitute runner per team. This must be declared as soon as possible to a race official. The substitute must be an undeclared runner, and must not be taken from any other team.

If you need any clarification of the new rules let me know - Also if you see any problems with, for example roadworks, on the route also let me know.

The Round Leicester Relay course starts and finishes at the Tudor Centre, Mowmacre Hill, Border Drive, Leicester, LE4 2JE, (Click here for a map).

More details will be issued out to clubs over the summer - hope you enjoy the race!

I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ON September 26th !!
